Reviewing the Serbian Law on Investment

Belgrade, Serbia

In 2006, Locus founder and CEO Jean-Paul Gauthier served as Senior Advisor on a World Bank project to review Serbia's Investment Law. The investment law was inherited from the 2002 Yugoslav Investment Law and provided a basic set of protections considered mainstream or customary international law by today's standards: elimination of investment restrictions, national treatment for foreign investors, freedom to transfer/repatriate profits and dividends, and guarantees against expropriation. Jean-Paul's review identified potential improvements.
